Main stages of education/employment

Entry level

Entry Level Certificate (NQF)
These qualifications can be taken at any age in order to continue to education or training.

Level 1

NVQ Level 1, Level 1 Certificate GCSEs at grade D-G

Secondary education level.

These qualifications provide initial entry into employment or further education.

Level 2

NVQ Level 2, Level 2 Certificate, Level 2 Diploma, GCSEs at grade A*-C

Continuation or completion of secondary education.

These qualifications enable you to progress to skilled employment.

Level 3

NVQ Level 3, A' Levels, Level 3 Certificate, Level 3 Diploma

These qualifications enable you to enter higher education or employment as a qualified/skilled worker.

Level 4

NVQs, Level 4 Certificate, Level 4 Diploma
These qualifications provide specialised education and training.

Level 5

NVQs, Level 5 Certificate, Level 5 Diploma, Higher National Diploma
These qualifications enable you to enter professional graduate employment.

Level 6

NVQs, Level 6 Certificate, Level 6 Diploma

Intermediate/higher education level.

These qualifications provide advanced skills training.

Level 7

Fellowships, NVQ Level 5

These qualifications enable you to enter professional or postgraduate education or employment.

Level 8

Highly specialist Diploma from a professional body

These qualifications enable you to enter highly specialist professional or postgraduate education or employment.
