Level 5 Intermediate qualifications

Set at undergraduate level, our Intermediate qualifications will help to develop your ability to evaluate the effectiveness of different Human Resources (HR) or Learning and Development (L&D) models and practices and increase the understanding of the external factors that impact upon HR activities and organisations, whilst also developing planning, analytical and problem solving skills. They also offer you the opportunity to build on your expertise in your chosen HR or L&D subjects. 

CIPD Intermediate Certificates and Diplomas provide a professionally recognised qualification and a professional level of CIPD membership, Associate (Assoc CIPD).

These qualifications are comparable to a Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Level 5 (or Undergraduate Level).  This is comparable to Level 7 in Ireland, Level 9 in Scotland and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5.

Who is a CIPD Intermediate qualification for?

A CIPD Intermediate qualification is suitable for those:
  • aspiring to develop a career in HR management or development and want to study a recognised undergraduate level qualification

  • working in the field of HR management or development and want to progress their career by developing their knowledge and skills at a higher level

  • with responsibility for implementing HR policies and strategies

  • who need to understand the role of HR or L&D in the wider organisational and environmental context

  • seeking to progress and further develop their professional HR or L&D knowledge after studying a CIPD Foundation Level qualification

  • looking to become a professional member of the CIPD.

Qualification options 

We offer a flexible range of Intermediate qualifications that vary in size, content and length. You’ll gain credits for successfully completed units and the total number achieved will equate to an Award, Certificate or Diploma. You can choose to follow either a HR or L&D pathway and have the opportunity to study individual Intermediate Level Awards to either start or top up your HR and L&D knowledge.

Award

We offer one Intermediate Award:

  • CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Award in Human Resources

This is the smallest size Intermediate qualification we offer and can be made up of any one unit or a combination of units totalling between 3-12 credits.

This ultimately gives you the opportunity to study bite size topics and gain knowledge from a range of professional areas enabling you to build a practical qualification that suits your specific professional needs.

Certificates

We offer two Intermediate Certificates:

  • CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management

  • CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Development

The Certificate qualifications are larger in size than the Awards and provide a firm introduction and understanding of HR or L&D in a wider business context.

Diplomas

We offer two Intermediate Diplomas:

  • CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Diploma in Human Resource Management

  • CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Diploma in Human Resource Development

The Diploma qualifications are the largest size qualification at this level and enable you to develop your skills of HR and L&D through undertaking more units and through widening your breadth of HR and L&D knowledge further.

Membership

CIPD Intermediate Certificates and Diplomas provide a professionally recognised qualification and a professional level of CIPD membership, Associate (Assoc CIPD).
