Practitioner-level programmes

Suitable to advance your managerial career in personnel and development. Cover some or all of these four fields of study:

  • Leadership and Management
  • People Management and Development
  • Applied Personnel and Development
  • Specialist and Generalist Personnel and Development.

Form the basis of the Professional Development Scheme (PDS) and other postgraduate programmes, and can lead to Graduate membership . Some CIPD centres also offer National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ) at practitioner-level.

Support-level programmes

Relevant if you\'re looking to build and develop your career in personnel and development. Form the basis of Certificate programmes and lead to Associate membership.

Include:

  • Certificates
  • Level 3 National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ)/Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ)

The following vocational qualifications are available at support level

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ in Learning and Development
• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ in Personnel Support
• Level 3 NVQ in Recruitment

Level 4 and 5 NVQ and SVQs are available through under practitioner-level programmes
Information on a wide range of other vocational qualifications is available directly from centres offering vocational qualifications.

Flexible learning

Study without having to commit to full- or part- time attendance at a centre. Instead of attending regular classes, you\'ll be provided with material to be studied in your own time. You\'ll attend regular workshops with other students and have access to your tutor, and can start and finish a course at any time of the year.

Block release

Enables you to study for your CIPD qualification in a series of \'blocks\' of days and combine this with attendance at work.

Professional assessment against CIPD Standards

Relevant if:

  • You have more than 5 years\' managerial-level experience
  • And you are operating at a senior level

Instead of studying for a qualification, you\'ll work with your professional assessment centre (PAC) to put together a portfolio of evidence to show how your background and expertise match our Professional Standards at practitioner-level. Successful assessment against all of the four standards will lead to Graduate membership.

Vocational assessment against standards for vocational qualifications

Vocational qualifications are achieved through assessment of your competence against national occupational standards.

Relevant if:

  • You want an alternative to studying based on competence in the workplace
  • Includes National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) or Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) at level 3, 4 and 5

Can lead to either Associate or Licentiate membership.
