As HR departments are under increasing pressure to demonstrate how they add value to the business, they are looking at how best to organise themselves to best add this value.
The CIPD has completed a two-year research project on the changing HR function, which was conducted by the Institute for Employment Studies. The project consolidated and extended existing knowledge of the HR function, the changes affecting it, the reasons for the changes and the implications for further development of the successful contribution of HR professionals.
The main report from the work The Changing HR Function: Transforming HR includes in-depth case studies, and was published in November 2007
In September 2007 we published The Changing HR Function survey report. This provides data on how HR functions in organisations are meeting the challenges of structures, roles, skills and relationships.
In October 2006 we published The Changing HR Function: Key Questions, based on the first phase of the project. This reviewed the existing literature and identified research themes for the subsequent phases
In August 2006 we published a report of an event where senior HR practitioners shared their thoughts on the changing role of the HR function. The event was designed to highlight key issues for input to this project.
