Coaching

  •  Our research shows that line managers are increasingly being expected to deliver coaching in the workplace. We commissioned the University of Portsmouth Business School to investigate what this means for organisations and for line managers. The report of their research, Coaching at the sharp end, was published in April 2009, and can be ordered from our bookstore.

A practical tool will be available on this website in July.

  • We worked with Ashridge Centre for Excellence in Coaching on a project examining coaching provision in UK organisations. We published the report on the research Developing Coaching Capability in Organisations in April 2008. It includes case studies on Cega Group, Orange, Essex County Council, Yell, the BBC, Zurich Financial Services, the Metropolitan police, and M&G, providing insights into the practices and experiences of leading organisations.
  • Coaching and Buying Coaching Services is a practical guide for HR practitioners who need to make decisions about choosing a coach.
  • We published a summary of initial findings from the study in a free report Coaching in Organisations. This includes case studies showing how M&G and Orange structure their internal coaching offers
  • In 2006 we carried out a research project on coaching supervision and in December 2006 we published a 'change agenda' report Coaching Supervision: Maximising the potential of coaching based on the research.

  • The research on coaching supervision included in-depth case studies looking at coaching supervision at the BBC, Centre for Excellence in Leadership and Greater Manchester Police, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Standard Chartered Bank

  • Our book The Case for Coaching draws on an extensive review of research on coaching. It will help practitioners who need to make a judgement about where and how coaching will work and what the return will be on the financial investment involved.
