Research

In October 2007 we published Fit for Business: Transforming HR in the Public Sector. This was based on a project carried out by a consortium led by the Development Partnership. The consortium's aim was to encourage and help the development of the HR function in the public sector. It was made up of eight organisations in central and local government, including Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, National Audit Office, the Financial Services Authority and the Department Work and Pensions.

We worked previously with the National School for Government, the Employers Organisation for Local Government and the Development Partnership on an action learning programme. Our aim was to explore how best to build an effective and modern HR function in the public sector. This involved nine public sector organisations working together to improve aspects of their HR performance. Below are case studies from these organisations.

In 2003 we published Delivering Public Services: Engaging and energising people written by the Development Partnership. This looked at the progress of six public service organisations involved in the process of major service improvement.
