Ongoing research
Planned for 2007/08, a new publication, using illustrative case studies, will look at how and if business practice has changed since the introduction of the religion and belief discrimination legislation regulations in 2003. How are organizations measuring and monitoring their actions? Have employers seen any increase in engagement, productivity/wellbeing or happiness? What have been the challenges particularly in the light of the media glare?
Labour Market Outlook Winter 2006-07
includes a Focus section reporting on a survey of management policies relating to employees' religious beliefs. This shows that employers are not finding it difficult to respond to employees’ needs regarding their religious beliefs. Contrary to what might be expected from the press coverage about the veil and the wearing of religious dress and jewellery, bans tend to exist only in manufacturing organisations where there are over-riding health and safety issues
