Since McKinsey first coined the expression ‘the war for talent’ – the term ‘talent management’ has been increasingly common in the world of human resources. There is a range of views about the usefulness of the term – and indeed its meaning. However, broadly speaking it can be understood as referring to the
identification
development
engagement/retention
deployment
of those employees who are particularly valuable to an organisation – either in view of their ‘high potential’ for the future or because they are fulfilling business/operation-critical roles.
Nottingham Business School have carried out a major research project for us looking at talent management in a strategically integrated way in the global, national and organisational context.
