About Shaping the Future

Shaping the Future is the CIPD’s new flagship exploration of how we can build sustainable high-performing cultures. It will run for three years from October 2008 – although we hope that its effects will be felt long after the formal programme has concluded.

It will progress through in-depth research into a group of case study companies – including international and not-for-profit organisations. It will bring people together in action learning sets and large-scale engagement events, both face to face and virtual.

The aim is to engage at least a thousand HR practitioners and business leaders in debating and analysing the foundations of high-performance working, and in so doing, to change the way we think and act. In turn, that will have a major impact on the way that people management itself is seen by our colleagues in other professions. To paraphrase Karl Marx, we’ve spent enough time interpreting the world of work; the point is to change it.
