Asking interview questions and getting answers

Last Published  01 August 2012

A typical interview lasts just 60 minutes and the quality of the information gathered by your delegates will depend as much on the quality of the questions they ask, as it does on the responses from the candidate.

This tool uses a series of short exercises to help participants to identify appropriate questions and ensure they get the most out of the short time they get with interview candidates. The exercises in the tool are participative and work best in small groups.

Tool aim
  • To introduce participants to the different types of questions that can be asked.
  • To help participants to understand how to ask probing questions to gain further information.
  • To help participants to understand and be able to use funnelling techniques to get more detailed information from candidates.
