Learning transfer is what happens after a course, when participants apply their new knowledge and skills in the workplace. This tool describes the challenges of successful workplace transfer and identifies strategies for helping trainers to plan for, and support, effective transfer.

The tools in this section will give you some ideas as to how you can contribute to successful learning transfer before, during and after training.

Who is this tool for?

If you're a new or relatively new trainer, this will give you some tips as to how to ensure a high level of learning transfer as you design and deliver training.

Tool aims
  • Define what is meant by learning transfer.
  • Describe the challenges participants may face when they want to apply their learning on return to the workplace.
  • Identify the support that the organisation needs to offer in order to ensure successful learning transfer.
