Managing challenging participant behaviour

From time-to-time, every trainer comes across challenging behaviour from course participants. With good preparation and clear, agreed ground rules, challenging behaviour is less likely to arise. When they do arise, you need to be able to address challenging behaviour respectfully and assertively.

Who is this tool for?

This tool is for new and inexperienced trainers to help them to prevent and/or reduce the likelihood of challenging participant behaviour, and to respond appropriately to it when it happens.

Tool aims

This tool will help you to:
  • Take preventative measures to reduce the likelihood of challenging behaviour arising.
  • Develop coping strategies when participants do exhibit challenging behaviour.
  • Know how to handle different types of challenging behaviour appropriately.
