Overview of methods of managing short-term absences

Short-term employee absences are more likely to be for non-genuine reasons than long-term absences. The focus of an organisation should be on providing support for employees who have been genuinely absent, while making it clear that action will be taken against those that are off work unnecessarily. In doing so, it is important to understand the different options that are available in managing short-term absences before a decision can be taken as to what would be appropriate in specific organisations.
