Words, music and dance

Overview

The impression we create is formed from what we say, our tone of voice and our body language. This tool helps the new manager to recognise the importance of each component and how each can best be used to interact effectively with others.

According to research, 55 per cent of our impact on others comes from our body language, 38 per cent from our tone of voice, and only 7 per cent from the words we use. This tool looks in more detail at each of these aspects and suggests body language cues and techniques that managers can use to help them build rapport with others.

At the end of this session, managers will have:
  • a greater understanding of the importance of the words we use, our tone of voice and our body language and how each can best be used to interact effectively with others
  • a checklist of body language cues and techniques to help them build rapport with others
  • identified three things - an aspect of the words, the music or dance - they want to improve and worked on improving these for use in the workplace.

Tool aim
  • To help the new manager to recognise the importance of the words we use, our tone of voice and our body language and how each can best be used to interact effectively with others.
