Approaches for dealing with difficult people

Last Published  01 August 2012

The people we consider difficult tend to have different values, approaches to life and personal styles of behaviour to us, and these differences are potential causes of conflict. Although differences between people at work spark creativity, it is also important to value and utilise the differences in other people, and allow for and try to tolerate their weaknesses. A generic model for coping with difficult people at work enables us to achieve a satisfactory outcome.

Tool aims
  • To help participants work well with others, to be aware of three levels of difficult behaviour, and to apply approaches for working effectively with people they find difficult.
