Mental presuppositions

Last Published  01 August 2012

A useful cognitive technique in dealing with difficult people and situations is applying enabling thoughts to the situation - for example 'Behind every behaviour is a positive intention' and 'There is a solution to every problem'. In doing so, we approach the situation more positively and with the attitude that responsibility for a resolution may rest with ourselves, rather than the difficult person.

Tool aim
  • To help participants appreciate how their initial frame of reference or mental presupposition can help them deal with difficult people and difficult situations.
