Coaching faculty and board

The CIPD Coaching at Work faculty are committed to helping the CIPD to identify the latest trends and developments, ensuring that our courses and qualifications reflect leading-edge thinking and best practice.

They include many of the leading coaching and mentoring specialists, practitioners and academics actively involved in coaching and mentoring today and have been selected from public, private and voluntary sectors because of their proven expertise and experience in coaching and mentoring.

Among our faculty we have one of Europe's most prolific and well known writer and thinkers whose books include the classic Everyone needs a mentor; one of a small number of people in the UK who hold the credential of Professional Certificated Coach (PCC) awarded by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), a past chair of the British Psychological Society's (BPS) Special Group in Coaching Psychology, as well as the current UK Treasurer and the UK Head of Research for the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). Many also speak at CIPD Conferences as well as other events nationally and internationally.

Stephen Barden

Stephen Barden is a successful, professional, senior executive coach. Prior to establishing his coaching practice he was CEO to substantial commercial organisations for 15 years.

Margaret Chapman Chartered FCIPD

Margaret heads her own coaching consultancy as a Principal Psychologist. Her specific area of expertise is in the positive psychology of coaching and emotional intelligence.  She is author of The Emotional Intelligence Pocketbook and in addition has published widely as a result of her research in the field. She is a member of the CIPD Coaching at Work editorial advisory board.

Professor David Clutterbuck Chartered FCIPD

David is one of Europe’s most prolific and well-known management writer and thinkers. He has written more than 40 books and heads the UK research committee of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.

Kathy Froud Chartered FCIPD

Coaching and mentoring are at the core of Kathy’s portfolio. She is the CIPD representative of the ENTO steering group and professional body round table. She is a coach facilitator and cohort leader for the national Subject Learning Coach programme.

Sam Humphrey Chartered FCIPD

Sam works as an integrated Leadership Development consultant with particular expertise in coaching and coach consultancy. Sam is the former Head of Global Coaching at Unilever where and holds a professional Masters in Coaching.

Mel Leedham Chartered FCIPD

Mel has been a professional learning and development consultant for over 25 years and has worked with all levels of management in both the public and private sectors. He lectures and supervises coaches and has published articles and spoken at international conferences.

Anji Marychurch Chartered MCIPD

Anji is an experienced coach and mentor who specialises in working 1:1 with small business owners like herself. She is a Professional Certified Coach (ICF) and currently supervises a team of coaches for a global business coaching franchise.

John McGurk

John joined the CIPD in 2007 as Learning, Training and Development Adviser in the Insitute's research and policy team. His research interests include coaching and skills/labour market. Before joining the CIPD John was Head of Research and Policy at the British Air Line Pilots Association for eight years. Prior to that he was an academic at Cardiff Business School. John sees the CIPD's role in influencing the HR field as core to ensuring coaches are qualified and accredited.

John Mockler Chartered FCIPD

John has in-depth experience in restructuring organisations and devising strategies to change management behaviour and development. He is currently working with a number of NHS and private sector organisations on performance improvement and as an executive coach.

Eric Parsloe

Eric is an experienced international executive coach-mentor and an acknowledged subject expert, writer and broadcaster and the author of several books and learning packages aimed at maximising individual potential and performance whilst maintaining a sensible life-balance. He is the Chairman of The OCM as well as one of the founders of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and the current UK Treasurer.

Pauline Willis

Pauline is one of the UK’s leading experts in the field of coaching and mentoring with her professionalism and leadership in the field resulting in her appointment to a range of influential roles within the emergent coaching and mentoring professional community of practice.
