Robert Upex

Robert Upex, MA, LLM, is a Barrister and Professor of Law at the University of Surrey, and a former part-time Chairman of Employment Tribunals. He is a widely published author of employment law texts, and is also Head of CIPD’s Advanced Certificate in Employment Law as well as the CIPD’s Certificate in Employment Relations, Law and Practice.

Antonia McAlindin Chartered CCIPD

Antonia McAlindin, BA, LLM is a qualified barrister, specialising in labour law. She lectures regularly on employment law issues at colleges, universities, to local authorities, and professional bodies. She is past Chair of both the CIPD Scottish Partnership and the Women’s Legal Defence Fund Scotland. Antonia is a board member of a Further Education College, a former member of the CIPD’s national committees on Employment Relations and Equal Opportunities, and a current member of its Employment Relations Panel.

Chris Chapman

Chris Chapman, LLB, FSIArb, has been a part-time Chairman of Employment Tribunals since 1995, prior to which time he was for 30 years a solicitor and ultimately managing partner in the largest firm of trade union lawyers, Thompsons. He acted for trade unions and their members in personal injury claims and employment-related disputes. He has been a member of the ACAS Panel of Individual Arbitrators since 1999, and in 2002 was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Central Arbitration Committee.

Ben Willmott

Ben Willmott is an Adviser for Employee Relations at the CIPD, being responsible for ensuring that the CIPD’s interests are represented across a wide range of public policy areas including stress, data protection, health and safety and statutory dispute resolution. His others areas of interest include absence management, working time and the Information and Consultation Directive.

Chris Pearson Chartered MCIPD

Chris Pearson, BA (Hons), is Head of Human Resources at HM Treasury. He graduated in English from the University of Birmingham in 1976 and spent 12 years in personnel in a variety of roles in British Gas, both in regional and headquarters roles. He then spent four years at London Electricity in HR followed by seven years as head of personnel at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. He then became Head of Corporate Human Resources at the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and moved to his current role in March 2001.

David Harper

David Harper, BA, is Head of Employment at law firm Lovells. He qualified as a solicitor in 1978, and since then his experience and knowledge has encompassed an entire range of employment law issues, transactions, litigation and advisory matters. David has also been listed as a leading expert in the Legal 500 and Chambers directories for several years.

Mike Emmott

Mike Emmott, MA, LLM, is an Adviser for Employee Relations at the CIPD. Current work focuses on employee engagement, the changing HR function, and public policy. Before joining the Institute, Mike had many years’ experience in the Department of Employment Group.

Brendan McCann Chartered MCIPD

Brendan currently heads up the Group HR function for Independent News and Media (UK), publishers of The Independent and Independent on Sunday. He has a degree in Business Studies and an MA in Manpower Studies and has 20 years’ experience in HR, including senior international roles.

Chris Brown Chartered MCIPD

Chris Brown is an independent consultant advising on legal, strategy and HR governance across both the corporate and public sectors. Previously he worked in a range of HR roles for Abbey, the BBC and the NHS. He is also a member of the CIPD’s Employee Relations Panel.
