Mrs Carolyn Carrington
Professor Robert Upex
Professor Robert Upex MA, LLM, Barrister, ACIArb FRSA is Head of the CIPD’s Employment Law Faculty. He was a Professor of Law at the University of Surrey from 2000 to 2007; from 2002-2005 was Head of the Department of Law. and is now Emeritus Professor of the University. Robert was previously Head of the School of Law and Professor of Law at Kingston University. He has been Chair of the International Labour Organisation’s Joint Panel for the Resolution of Internal Disputes and Grievances, a part-time Chairman of Employment Tribunals and a part-time Chairman of Social Security Appeals Tribunals.

From 1990 to 2005 he was General Editor of Sweet & Maxwell’s Encyclopaedia of Employment Law. He is the author of numerous books on Employment Law, including The Law of Termination of Employment, the 7th edition of which was published by Jordans in 2006, and TUPE: Law and Practice (with Michael Ryley), published by Jordans in 2006. He is also the author of Employment Law for Business Students (Sage Publications 2006, with Stephen Hardy), and Labour Law (2.d ed., OUP, 2006, with Richard Benny and Stephen Hardy).

He is a barrister and a member of Old Square Chambers. He speaks regularly at courses and conferences on Employment Law.
Mrs Antonia McAlindin
Antonia McAlindin, BA, LLM is a qualified barrister, specialising in labour law. She lectures regularly on employment law issues at colleges, universities, to local authorities, and professional bodies. She is past Chair of both the CIPD Scottish Partnership and the Women's Legal Defence Fund Scotland. Antonia is a board member of a Further Education College, a former member of the CIPD's national committees on Employment Relations and Equal Opportunities, and a current member of its Employment Relations Panel.
Mr Peter Winfield
Peter Winfield MA (Law), BA, PG.Dip.L., Dip.PM., Cert. M., Cert.Ed., Chartered Fellow CIPD, FRSA, Winston Churchill Fellow is deputy-head of programme, senior personal tutor and course tutor for the CIPD’s post-graduate Advanced Certificate in Employment Law. He is also a course tutor for the Certificate in Employment Relations, Law & Practice. He is an experienced lecturer and trainer in employment law having been academic support adviser/tutor for the MA/LLM in Law & Employment Relations at the University of Leicester and programme manager for Law at BPP/Malpas. He was co-author of the learning materials and tutor for the new LLM at the University of Surrey, and consultant lecturer at the College of Law for England & Wales teaching on the PSC – the final part of the lawyers’ professional training programme.

He has also been a course director for CIPD programmes in the further & higher education sector. Peter has been a CIPD external examiner for fifteen years.

Peter is a published text book author and writer of learning materials, HR/legal updates and bulletins. He is consultant editor of the CIPD’s best-selling Policy & Procedures for People Managers Manual and for the new CIPD on-line HR service: ‘HR Inform’. He has designed and runs a CIPD open course on Effective HR Policies & Procedures. Peter’s broad experience includes being assistant director of HR with two large local authorities, HR consultant for a large national charity and principal employee relations consultant for Reed Consulting. He has also been a free-lance consultant/trainer in employment law/relations and HR management for twelve years and is currently working with an employment relations consultancy firm.

He is a member of the Industrial Law Society and the Institute of Employment Rights. In 1991 Peter studied in the USA on a Winston Churchill Fellowship conducting research into the relationship between industrial relations and management leadership. In addition to visiting different industries he studied at Yale, Rutgers and Michigan State universities.
Mr Sanjiv Ahluwalia
Sanjiv Ahluwalia LLM (Employment Law) LLB (Hons) is a practising solicitor. Sanjiv has held positions in private practice and local government, and spent five years in the oil industry working as a legal adviser to two major oil companies. He was Legal and Commercial Adviser at the Federation of Recruitment and Employment Services (now known as REC - a trade association for the recruitment industry) and subsequently worked as Associate Director of Employment Law Services for the JSB Group.

Sanjiv is an experienced lecturer, trainer and consultant in employment law and has written widely on legal issues of practical interest and importance to HR specialists, line managers and lay people generally. He is the legal editor of the CIPD's Performance and Wellness Manual.

Sanjiv has undertaken work for the Free Representation Unit and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors.

Sanjiv runs his own practice, providing a consultancy service to a wide range of clients. He has acted for employees and employers in cases involving various employment issues.
Mr Derek Eccleston

Derek is Managing Director of Employment Law Training Limited, and regularly presents, writes and provides consultancy advice on employment law issues.

Derek is an experienced, practical consultant, specialising in the provision of advice and training on employment law and employee relations. He spent over 20 years in senior HR roles in a number of industries - local government, engineering and financial services, prior to joining the Employment team of a prominent law firm. After 6 years Derek left to set up his own consultancy, in 2001.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD), and completed an MA in Employment Law with Leicester University in 2000. He is a senior presenter for the CIPD and is also a personal tutor on the CIPD Advanced Certificate in Employment Law.

More recently Derek has authored Employment Law publications for CIPD, Gower Publishing and contributed to the LEXCEL Guide, published by the Law Society.

In 2006 Derek successfully completed a Training Skills refresher programme and was also appointed as a recognised trainer for the Financial Services Skills Council.

Mr Mike Worthington

Mike Worthington Chartered FCIPD, is a specialist lecturer, trainer and adviser in Employment Law and the Management of Change. Mike has worked across a wide range of industry sectors both in the UK and abroad.

Mike began his career in the hospitality industry where he concentrated on Personnel, Employee Relations and Management Development opening new hotels all over the world. As Personnel Director with Forte Hotels he looked after Fortes London properties and their International and Five Star businesses.

In 1996, Mike entered a joint venture partnership with Regal Hotels as Human Resources Director which built the business from 7 to 127 hotels in three years – becoming an expert in TUPE in the process!

Since 1999, Mike has been involved in consultancy across a range of sectors including hospitality, sports and leisure, oil and petroleum, agriculture, telecoms, retail and local government.

In support of Mike’s law work, he sits as a member of the Employment Appeal Tribunal which hears cases on points of law arising from Employment Tribunals and also has a Masters Degree in Human Resources and European Employment Law.

Mr Nick Evans
Nick Evans has worked for many years as a solicitor specialising in employment law, in senior public sector roles and private practice. He is now Legal Operations Director of HR and Legal Services consultants Outset, advising leading organisations on employment law.
Mr Colin Smith
LLB Hons, Diploma Legal Practice, Member of Employment Lawyers Association, Non Practising Solicitor.

Colin Smith is Senior Employment Law Consultant for Outset UK, a Legal and
People Management consultancy.

Colin started his legal career in private practice in 1999 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2001 and has specialised in employment law ever since.

He has worked with Outset since its creation in 2003, working with a number of clients, principally medium to large corporate organisations employing from 500 to 10,000 employees and in a variety of sectors advising on an extensive range of employment law and industrial relations issues.

Colin has significant expertise in all areas of employment law including executive level matters, employment contracts, dismissals and disciplinary issues, TUPE, termination packages and compromised exits, redundancy law, process design and implementation, trade union relations, discrimination law and advocacy in the Employment Tribunal.

Colin also has extensive insight into the legal and HR issues involved in business sales and restructures including the practical implications and application of TUPE.

Colin has presented and lectured on a variety of employment law topics for professional bodies and direct to clients including the CIPD, Legal Training TV and Business Link.
