• how to interpret and recognise implications of legislation and advise on its impact, especially: working time regulations, work life balance – flexible working provision, basic health and safety, data protection and new information and consultation regulations 
• procedures necessary to deal with issues of poor performance, behaviour and capability in order to advise and contribute to performance management through HR best practice 
• dispute resolution procedures and processes relating to grievance, discipline, job and performance grading, trade union recognition and application of agreements 
• dispute resolution processes for collective bargaining, joint consultation and information-giving instructions 
• enhanced negotiating and influencing skills, and the opportunity to practice applying them to relevant employee relations scenarios.
