About the certificate

*

The performance of the people in your team and organisation drives your competitive advantage. The performance of your people is critical in delivering your objectives and the required return on investment for your operation. Achieving ongoing improvements in people performance depends on how well equipped you are to manage the people whose performance you are responsible for, and how effectively you can turn a group of individuals into a high performing team.

Effective HR policies and strategies provide the foundations for good practice people management but, on a day-to-day basis, it is the line manager who shoulders the responsibility of ensuring the quality and quantity of the team’s output.

This new Certificate is the first that CIPD has developed specifically for line managers, and is focused entirely on the people aspects of your role as a manager. You are possibly a specialist, professional or expert in your own field who, with promotion and career progression, has taken on the extra responsibilities and challenges associated with managing others.

Who is it for?

This Certificate programme is intended for any line manager, project leader or team manager irrespective of functional background or experience. It is, however, essential that participants have responsibility for a team, or can take on the responsibility for a team, for the duration of the programme. Students will include:

  • line, team or project managers new to their role
  • more experienced managers responsible for improving a team’s performance or faced with specific challenges; for example managing a team through a period of change
  • aspiring managers, providing they have the opportunity to take on a team leader role for the duration of the programme.

How long does it take to complete?

The Certificate takes 12 months to complete. You have a maximum of 18 months to complete the programme.

How do I gain the Certificate?

To be awarded the Certificate, you must

  • complete five modules – each module comprises 50 hours of learning including self-study activities, a one-day workshop, and collaborative online activities
  • complete four assessed written assignments that are based on specific team based activities intended to ensure immediate business impact from your learning
  • complete an assessed work-based project which will enable you to integrate your learning across different modules
  • maintain a personal development log that enables you to measure the impact of your learning on team performance and shows a satisfactory level of learning and understanding.
