The Learning and Development Faculty comprises leading academics, consultants and senior practitioners working in learning and development who have been selected from public, private and voluntary sectors because of their expertise in the field.
The faculty is committed to helping the CIPD identity the latest trends and developments ensuring that we incorporate leading edge thinking and practice into all our learning and development courses and certificates programmes.
Julia Duggleby
Senior lecturer with responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Certificate programmes. Winner of the Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) 2002 Practitioner Award for Technology and Innovation in Education: Quality in Staff Development for Information and Learning Technology. Joint winner, with Fred Pickering, of the 1999 National Information and Learning Technology Association (NILTA) Multimedia Award. Author of How to Be an On-line Tutor. Contributor to the JISC Effective Online Tutoring Guidelines.
Tom Harlow
Tom has been Sport England’s Learning and Development Manager since July 2004. He joined Sport England from Transport for London where his creative and effective approach in a management development role led to a National Training Award and an article in People Management. Tom is a keen sportsman and speaks fluent Spanish.
Isobel Heaton
Isobel Heaton Chartered MCIPD is an international HR consultant and trainer and managing partner of a consultancy. An important aspect of her work is he development of other professional trainers.
Gladys Mahone
Learning, management and team development have been at the core of Gladys's career. She is a Chartered MCIPD learning and development consultant having current responsibility for implementing a culture change programme within Barnet Homes.
Itiel E Dror
Dr Itiel Dror is a senior lecturer in the School of Psychology at Southampton University who specialises in cognitive technologies and their applications. He conducts research and provides international consultancy in training, biometrics and technological solutions within cognitive and human perspectives.
Victoria Winkler
Victoria joined the Institute in February 2003. She is one of the CIPD’s experts on learning, training and development, and specialises in talent management and line manager involvement in learning and development. She is also responsible for developing the overall CIPD framework forengaging with government policies and activities in workforce development, vocational education and basic skills. Victoria is a UK judge for the National Training Awards.
Prior to joining the Institute she worked as a research and project manager for the Publishing National Training Organisation and also for the Basic Skills Agency and Open University Press.
Martyn Sloman
Martyn Sloman was appointed to his current position of Adviser, Learning, Training and Development at the CIPD in January 2001. He has responsibility for research into the role and contribution of learning and training in organisations, for e-learning, and for the links between people management and technology. He spent his early career as an economistand business strategist and was awarded national and international prizes for his publication in system science. As author, lecturer and conference speaker he has made a significant contribution to the development of modern human resource concepts and practice.
Deirdre Tidy
Deirdre Tidy Chartered MCIPD is a training and development consultant who specialises in communication and interpersonal skills development to achieve change. The coauthor of two books on communication, she uses a mix of practical and innovative approaches, including systems thinking and NLP.
Jane Townsend
Jane has a specialist background in education, learning and linguistics. After an early career as a teacher of adult learning and teacher training, Jane worked with the Pitman Training Group developing and delivering personal development programmes to the corporate sector. As a trainer, facilitator and coach she has worked with private and public sectorclients in the UK and abroad to improve and enhance learning capacity within organisations and for individuals. She is a trainer in NLP, accelerated learning practitioner, and a qualified coach-mentor delivering professional coaching qualifications for the CIPD.
Teresa Williams
Dr Teresa Williams Chartered FCIPD is an experienced independent consultant specialising in the field of training trainers. She has held a number of training and development roles at British Aerospace and Provident Mutual Life Assurance. Teresa has written and contributed to a number of publications in the field of training and development.
