Course tutors

Professor Robert Upex
Professor Robert Upex MA, LLM, Barrister, ACIArb FRSA is Head of the CIPD’s Employment Law Faculty. He was a Professor of Law at the University of Surrey from 2000 to 2007; from 2002-2005 was Head of the Department of Law. and is now Emeritus Professor of the University. Robert was previously Head of the School of Law and Professor of Law at Kingston University. He has been Chair of the International Labour Organisation’s Joint Panel for the Resolution of Internal Disputes and Grievances, a part-time Chairman of Employment Tribunals and a part-time Chairman of Social Security Appeals Tribunals.

From 1990 to 2005 he was General Editor of Sweet & Maxwell’s Encyclopaedia of Employment Law. He is the author of numerous books on Employment Law, including The Law of Termination of Employment, the 7th edition of which was published by Jordans in 2006, and TUPE: Law and Practice (with Michael Ryley), published by Jordans in 2006. He is also the author of Employment Law for Business Students (Sage Publications 2006, with Stephen Hardy), and Labour Law (2.d ed., OUP, 2006, with Richard Benny and Stephen Hardy).

He is a barrister and a member of Old Square Chambers. He speaks regularly at courses and conferences on Employment Law.
Mrs Antonia McAlindin
Antonia McAlindin, BA, LLM is a qualified barrister, specialising in labour law. She lectures regularly on employment law issues at colleges, universities, to local authorities, and professional bodies. She is past Chair of both the CIPD Scottish Partnership and the Women's Legal Defence Fund Scotland. Antonia is a board member of a Further Education College, a former member of the CIPD's national committees on Employment Relations and Equal Opportunities, and a current member of its Employment Relations Panel.
