1. Who is the Postgraduate in Talent and Career Management Certificate for?
The programme is ideal for those in HR who are already in or seek to move into a talent management and/or career management area of responsibility. They may also be in related functions such as learning and development or recruitment. They may also have or seek to develop further consulting or coaching skills.
2. How can I use what I learn back at work?
On completion of the Certificate you will be able to:
- critically evaluate external factors affecting career and talent management policy in organisations, including political and economic issues
- conduct a talent audit
- develop a succession plan
- help managers to design competency-based job profiles
- understand the main principles of individual development planning aligned with organisational needs
- identify and develop high-potential talent
- design and successfully conduct performance management
- acquire a thorough and pragmatic understanding of the relationship between individuals and work, together with factors influencing life choices
- inform your actions with appropriate use of assessment tools and information
- use coaching techniques with individuals to assist personal career development
- understand the pros and cons of current talent management software
- identify and overcome the barriers and resistance to implementation of talent development initiatives
- reflect on and modify your own personal career plan.
3. What is the format?
The Certificate uses a blended learning approach. It is made up of four modules with the first three comprising a two-day face-to-face workshop, self-study, telephone coaching, CPD journal entries, assignments, online discussions and other collaborative activities between the workshops. The fourth module focuses on self-study, telephone coaching and your own CPD. Students work together in their learning sets throughout the twelve month programme.
To be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Talent and Career Management, you must:
- attend the three workshops (which are six days of face-to-face learning in total)
- complete four written assignments of 3,500 words each
- actively take part in the online discussions and group activities between the workshops
- complete the self-assessment tool and CPD entries
- complete five hours of telephone coaching with your personal coach.
4. How long will it take?
The Certificate takes twelve months to complete. You have a maximum of one year to complete the requirements of the programme.
5. Does the Certificate lead to CIPD membership?
On completion of the programme, you’ll be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Talent and Career Management. The qualification is validated by the University of Surrey as 60 CATS points at Postgraduate level. Completion of this qualification does not lead to CIPD membership.
6. How much does the programme cost?
To make things as easy as possible for you or your organisation, you can pay the full Certificate fee up-front, or on a module-by-course module basis.

CIPD members: £4,355 + VAT
Non-members: £4,840 + VAT
Module-by-module fees
You will be invoiced for three modules on an individual basis for the total fee of:
CIPD members: £4,570 + VAT
Non-members: £5,080 + VAT
