Advanced Workplace Counselling

Recommended for:

Personnel and development professionals and line managers who have already participated in an introductory course on counselling or have existing counselling skills.

Course overview:

Line managers and HR professionals are increasingly being asked to support employees in a number of roles: as advice and information givers, mentors, rainers and, more recently, as counsellors. Indeed, counselling skills underlie and underpin many forms of employee help. This 2-day course builds on the counselling in the Workplace course and explores further counselling skills and processes.

Course benefits:

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • assess employees to provide or refer for the most effective form of intervention/s
  • practise the initial skills of interviewing and the advanced skills of challenge and confrontation
  • explain the interpersonal dynamics at work within the counselling relationship
  • handle the ‘difficult’ personality, eg one who manipulates helpers, is resistant to change, is overdemanding
  • identify the characteristics of those who may be mildly, moderately or even severely disturbed and may require professional help and support.
