New CIPD HR and Learning and Development qualifications

Two new foundation level qualifications will be available in 2010 – the CIPD Certificate in HR Practice and the CIPD Certificate in Learning and Development Practice.*

These new qualifications are ideal for professionals wishing to acquire a wide range of relevant, practical skills, and who wish to further their career with a professional qualification.

CIPD Certificate in Human Resource Practice

This programme provides a firm foundation in all areas of HR. It will help you develop essential HR skills and give you the confidence to be more effective at work and add value to your HR function.

CIPD Certificate in Learning and Development Practice

With a practical approach, this programme provides an in-depth and thorough grounding in the training cycle and the fundamentals of learning and development. It is ideal for practitioners looking to acquire a means of professional recognition in the field of learning and development.

Format of the programmes

Introductory workshop

Both programmes begin with an introductory workshop - specifically designed to help you understand the requirements of the programme, and enable you to identify the opportunities, challenges and sources of support available to you throughout your studies.

Course modules – choose the ones to suit you

The introductory workshop is followed by face-to-face course modules - a combination of core and optional units. Some course modules are core elements of HR or L&D, and must be attended. The remaining course modules can be chosen from a range of professional areas, topics and subjects. This allows you to build a practical qualification to suit your specific professional needs.

Gaining the qualification

To successfully gain either qualification you need to:

  • attend all the course modules that make up the programme (both core and your choice of optional ones)
  • successfully complete post course exercises
  • successfully complete assignments and assessed work.

Support throughout your qualification programme

To enable you to successfully complete your chosen qualification, you will be provided with a range of resources to support you throughout your studies. These include:

A personal tutor

A personal tutor to provide advice and support on all aspects of the qualification throughout the programme, by phone, email and post.

Virtual Learning Environment

Access to a dedicated online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for the duration of your programme. The  VLE contains an extensive range of resources including assessment guidance, further reading, CIPD research, and activities to consolidate the course module learning and help you transfer your learning back into the workplace. Plus a networking area where you can chat with fellow students, share ideas, challenges and best practice.

CIPD member resources

Whilst studying for one of these qualification programmes, you must join the CIPD as a studying member. CIPD membership offers you a wealth of professional resources, development tools and networking opportunities that will support you in your studies, as well as in your career and day-to-day job, including:

  • member-only website resources
  • online journals and magazines
  • People Management magazine
  • surveys, reports and research
  • training tools
  • and, much more!

On successful completion of these programmes, and if you have relevant work-based experience, you can apply to be upgraded to Associate membership of the CIPD.
