Is automation a foregone conclusion?

Hi everybody,

Lately I've seen so many articles, theories, predictions and conversations happening about the future of work, and in particular, automation.

For example, some people say that automation is a foregone conclusion, and as a society we should be planning for an existence where working and earning money is not central to human life.

Others are about embracing people, not robots, as a source of ideas and innovation, creating environments in which they can flourish.

Pretty big subjects I know! I'm wondering though, what are your thoughts about this slightly contradictory shift both towards and away from people as a source of value?

I know we can't predict the future, but it could be an interesting discussion for community members, and we would love to hear your thoughts.

PS – in case you’re interested in automation from a CIPD perspective:
