• RE: Moving to Ireland - State of the HR Jobs Market

Thanks very much Kevin, that's very helpful. We're hoping to stay away from Dublin, but Cork and Galway are on the table and I believe there are a fair amount of pharma and tech organisations in those areas.
We'd be moving from North East England…
  • Moving to Ireland - State of the HR Jobs Market

We're taking a long term look at moving back to Ireland from England. I'm CIPD Level 3 qualified and have almost 10 years experience, almost 4 at Generalist level. We are specifically looking outside of the Dublin area, but are otherwise fairly open.…

  • RE: Holiday pay!

If they work the same number of hours every week it shouldn't matter as a week is a week. If they work 39 hours per week, they'll be entitled to 5.6 weeks at 39hrs per week, if they work 15 it will be 5.6 at 15 hours per week.
  • RE: Fathers and the workplace

I had a brief conversation on twitter about paternity leave yesterday. It was less to do with shared parental leave, or fathers who are the main caregivers, but symptomatic of the whole thing, in my opinion.
My husband recently told his manager that…
  • RE: Wellbeing surveys

Is there a way that you can sort the staff into rough demographics that could help keep it semi-anonymous, e.g. by role or department, and give the option on putting their name for a more targeted response?
  • RE: Holiday pay!

For our term time only staff we assign holidays during the holiday period. So their contract consists of, say, 38 weeks of which 32 are working weeks, 6 are holiday weeks. They also have 14 non paid weeks. Their calendar shows the 32 working weeks, the…
  • RE: Dress advice for interviews

Hi Paul, lots of great advice here. I'd suggest that she also considers what she would wear again, i.e. get a black dress that's office appropriate but that she'd also wear when in the job. I normally wear a pair of slim black trousers and a loose blouse…
  • RE: Data Protection Staff Absence

Is there a purpose to putting the reason down? I assume the information of who's off is useful, but I can't imagine the reasons being useful to anyone apart from their manager and HR (who presumably know anyway) and the gossip mongers (who will probably…
  • RE: A level results day and pathways to work

I completely agree with that rant David and it's just as bad, if not worse in Ireland where I'm from! It's something that I feel quite strongly about. In my opinion there should also be an advisory service for all those in their 20s who realise that their…
  • RE: A level results day and pathways to work

This looks great. Certainly better than the careers advice that I received as a teenager which could be summed up as 'follow your dreams' - not helpful when I was asking specific questions about career prospects! Has the CIPD in Ireland produced anything…
