The two organisations have worked together for the last two years to build and deliver the first entirely online CIPD L&D qualifications. The partnership was recognised for “great collaboration and co-operation to achieve their goals” in a particularly competitive category of the TJ Awards.

This project began in late 2014 when the CIPD selected AVADO to help them address the widening L&D digital skills gap by developing globally accessible online qualifications. A key objective for the project was to lead by example in the digital learning space by role-modelling digital tools, social and collaborative learning.

'At the heart of this successful L&D partnership is a clear understanding of each other’s complimentary contribution. Our partnership is in a unique position of driving change and our ambitious plans are to continue inspiring global transformation throughout the L&D profession and beyond', said Ian Sumner, Head of New Product Development at AVADO.

The partnership’s CIPD Intermediate Diploma in L&D programme was launched in May 2015 and included contributions from industry experts, including Laura Overton, Charles Jennings, Clive Shepherd and Stella Collins. The programme created a huge rise in enrolments from 16 up to 375 in one year. The impact on the learners in the programme include 99% now ranking their skills in online or blended learning delivery as fairly/very capable – compared to only 39% before starting - and over 60% of learners have already applied new skills learned on the programme in the workplace.

'This partnership and programme was set up to respond to the increasing demand of people needing to access learning remotely, anywhere, anytime. We know that these courses are helping L&D professionals to boost their own careers and make a clear impact in their organisations and we’re delighted to be recognised for this. The award is a real testament to the hard work and dedication from the fantastic team and our partnership with AVADO', said Andy Lancaster, Head of L&D Content at CIPD.

The learning from the design of this programme has also been shared with the wider profession through a number of initiatives. These include a series of free learning sessions at CIPD events and Google HQ - an online community and resource hub called the ‘Future of Learning’, originally part of the qualification now available to all as a stand-alone product, and new programmes designed using the same methodology, including the partnership’s CIPD HR qualifications launched in 2016.

The L&D Intermediate programme has already been recognised by the industry, awarded Silver in the Best Online Distance Learning Programme category in November’s Learning Technologies Awards.
