A culture of learning

We provide a wide range of opportunities for staff to learn, develop and progress their careers including:

  • mentoring and coaching
  • an online virtual learning environment
  • 'Learning at Work' week
  • a programme of regular ‘discovery hours’.

Flexible working

For many of our employees, flexible working is an important part of our culture, enabling them to successfully balance the demands of their role with their commitments outside of work. All employees have the right to request flexible working and for the most part we’re able to accommodate those requests.

Employee engagement

We wear our Investors in People (IIP) Gold badge with pride. The IIP's thorough assessment, combined with insights from employee surveys, tells us that people:

  • are proud to work with us
  • love our working environment
  • feel a strong alignment with our purpose, vision and priorities
  • are highly engaged with both their specific job and the CIPD as a whole
  • find their colleagues at the CIPD collaborative and supportive to work with.

Health and well-being

The physical and mental health and well-being of our staff is imperative – not only because it affects our productivity and ability to succeed, but also because we care about our employees. We host regular health and well-being days at our head office to promote the variety of ways in which our employees can stay fit and healthy as well as the range of benefits we offer to our workforce. Our absence levels are decreasing and are below the national average for the UK.

Pay and reward

While pay isn’t usually the main motivator for people working for not-for-profit organisations like ours, we want to reward people fairly for the work they do and our total benefits package must enable us to attract the skills we need to succeed. We assess and reward the performance of our employees in a variety of ways including annual bonuses and additional bonuses. We're a Living Wage Employer and we benchmark salaries against the sectors we compete in. In line with our wider commitment to diversity and inclusion, we monitor pay to guard against any unconscious or conscious bias.
