About this download
The CIPD's Summer 2010 Employee outlook survey included questions aimed at informing the policy debate about extending working lives. We found that over 40% of employees who responded plan to work beyond the state retirement age, and 44% were in favour of abolishing the Default Retirement Age, which gives employers the right to require employees to retire once they reach the age of 65.
We also asked survey respondents:
- their reasons for planning to work beyond the state retirement age
- what measures would encourage them to do so
- at what age they expect to retire
- on what basis, aside from age, employers should be able to make decisions about the continued employment of older workers.
