To prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 Omicron variant, from 30 November 2021 face coverings will be mandatory in shops and on public transport in England (this is already a requirement in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Also from 30 November 2021 all travellers returning to the UK will require PCR testing. We have added new FAQs relating to the self-isolation requirements for contact with the Omicron variant and we are working to update the rest of our content to reflect these changes. In the meantime, employers should keep up to date with the latest developments on the UK Government website.
On 29 November 2021 the JCVI announced that all those over 18 will be offered booster jabs, prioritised according to age and being in an at risk group. Children aged 12 to 15 will be offered a second dose. Any severely immunosuppressed people should be offered a fourth dose as a booster. The minimum gap between receiving a second vaccine dose and booster will be cut to three months. We have updated our vaccination guide to reflect these changes. In the meantime employers should refer to the UK Government website.
