The CIPD has teamed up with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and Acas to produce guidance on the procedures in place for dealing with discipline, dismissal and grievance issues in the workplace.

The guidance, first published in February 2009 and revised in September 2009:

  • sets out the relevant changes to the Employment Act 2008 that came into force on 6 April 2009
  • summarises the revised Acas Code of Practice
  • gives an overview of options for dealing with employment disputes, including mediation and pre-claim conciliation.

Please note that the Employment Act 2008 is not applicable to Northern Ireland. Dispute resolution procedures in Northern Ireland are the responsibility of the Department for Employment and Learning of Northern Ireland (DELNI).
