A warm welcome to the CIPD Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Branch website. Our purpose is to promote and champion champion the objectives of the CIPD and act as a channel to ensure that local CIPD members are given opportunities to continue with their professional development, remain up to date with current HR issues and network with colleagues across the region.
We are an active branch with over 3,000 members. We believe you can benefit most from your membership by being actively involved with the branch activities. This may be through attending events, contributing to our newsletters, participating in our on line discussions or if you are interested in having direct involvement in our branch joining our branch committee.
We’re working hard to continue to provide a diverse and comprehensive programme of events for members, enabling us to share the benefit and expertise of a range of high profile speakers and leaders in our profession. Our full events programme is available on Eventbrite.
We are keen to ensure that our branch programme remains up to date and relevant to you. Please do keep in touch with myself or any of the committee members, we welcome your feedback on past events and even better, suggestions for the future.
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you at one of our future events.
Mentoring and coaching scheme
The branch currently operates a mentoring and coaching scheme, comprising trained HR mentors and coaches who have volunteered to support other members within the Branch. The aim of our scheme is to provide members at whatever level and stage in their career with support and guidance from a more experienced HR practitioner for approximately six months.
The branch is keen to offer help to members, whether they are currently studying to become CIPD qualified, or are an experienced HR practitioner. Do you need support and help with a particular project or assignment? Are you looking for your first HR job role or a change in role? Perhaps you are thinking of moving from an operational to a strategic HR role, or simply need support with upgrading your level of membership.
If you are looking for a mentor/coach or are interested in becoming one of our volunteer mentors or coaches then we would like to hear from you.
Details about our forthcoming workshops can be found on our events page. Further information about our scheme and application forms are available below.
Special interest groups
Learning and Development Group
The group provides a forum for professionals working in training and development. We aim to:
- deliver a programme of good quality events that appeal to a wide range of training and development audiences
- provide a platform for training and development professionals to network and keep up to date with latest practices
- raise the profile of learning and development and provide input to related policies.
We are hosting three events in the 2015/2016 programme. We want your input to the creation of future Learning and Development workshops, so if you would like us to cover a specific topic, or can suggest a venue or speaker, please contact us.
Sole Practitioner Group
Are you an HR practitioner, typically working in an SME, without the support of a corporate HR department? Are you the single source of HR expertise within your organisation?
Our HR Sole Practitioner Group provides an opportunity for members to discuss the challenges they face in a stand-alone role and share solutions to common problems encountered at work. We meet on a regular basis and on occasions organise practical workshops on key workplace issues. The Group provides a great support network for people who don't have the opportunity to speak to like-minded HR professionals at work.
Independent Practitioner and Consultants Group
Meetings are held throughout the year targeted at members who are, or may be thinking of becoming, self-employed, freelance practitioners or independent consultants.
Don’t be alone, come and join the group where you can meet to:
- share experience and knowledge
- provide mutual support and guidance
- hear speakers on subjects of particular interest to consultant
- collaborate with other group members.

We are also a part of the Midlands Area Partnership (MAP), a regional group of eight branches in the Midlands area which combine to cover 15,000 CIPD members. The group aims to promote the CIPD purpose throughout the Midlands region by sharing best practice, improving links between the individual branches and providing networking opportunities for all our members.
