Our branch is one of the most varied and widely dispersed within the CIPD, covering 4,000 square miles of rural and urban landscape with 700 miles of coastline.
Our 2,000 or so members are supported by five geographical groups:
- East Devon/Exeter (EX1-17)
- North Devon (EX18-39)
- South Devon (TQ)
- West Devon/Plymouth/SE Cornwall (PL1-21)
- Cornwall (TR & PL22-35)
and special interest groups such as Health and Wellbeing. Each of these runs a varied programme of events and networking opportunities relevant to the interests of a wide range of both large and small public, private and not-for-profit organisations. There is also a network for self-employed consultants.
We present a high profile SW regional conference, attracting a number of well-known national speakers to major venues around our region.
We have a number of established CIPD centres running qualifications at Foundation level 3, Intermediate level 5, Postgraduate level 7 and MA/MSc. Supporting these, the branch membership adviser team can offer individual advice on upgrading and career development. We also provide local support for major, national employment initiatives such as Engage for Success.
There are ongoing opportunities for members at all levels to become involved in our groups, networking with like-minded professionals in pursuit of CIPD’s strategic goal of championing better work and working lives.
'I joined in October 2015 as the West Devon/Plymouth/SE Cornwall Chair and I am thoroughly enjoying the experience. It has provided me the opportunity to work as part of the wider Devon and Cornwall Branch, while also organising local events through local providers for our CIPD members. It is through these experiences I have met many like-minded people in similar roles with similar challenges, while also benefiting from the event content and assisting in my personal development.'
