The CIPD year runs from July to June
For July 2019 to June 2020 there has been a step-change in CIPD expectations of Branches. All have been asked to give priority to three areas (Well-being and Mental Health, Diversity and Inclusion and Flexible Working) and to take on 4 additional Volunteering Lead roles – Mentoring Engagement, Public Policy, Student Engagement, Membership Engagement. In addition we have been encouraged to form Special Interest Groups. In response, Essex and Ipswich Branch Committee members have agreed to take on the additional roles and to draw up plans for Special Interest Groups in the areas of Self Employment, Learning and Development, Talent Management, and Wellbeing in the Workplace. Full details are at the end of this note. Details of all our events are circulated in email updates to members which appear most Sunday evenings. The CIPD system is based on the postal and email addresses that you provide to the CIPD when you start or renew your membership. Data protection regulations mean that if you change either address or want to receive information about this Branch in addition to that of another branch, you must contact CIPD direct. In addition all our events are advertised on Eventbrite
We are all volunteers who would very much welcome your support at all or any of our events. Our biggest need is to find more people willing to join our 3 Group Committees and help with the organization of local events in Colchester and Ipswich, Chelmsford and Central Essex, and Southend and South East Essex. Our vision is that each volunteer should lead the organization and running of just one event each year, and then assist colleagues with the running of the other group events.
Also, we would welcome volunteers to help with the additional activities detailed above; please express your interest to any Branch or Group Committee member Those who do volunteer will find that supporting systems and procedures such as Eventbrite are in place. Our expectations are not onerous and you will be joining a supportive team of people who really do want to improve Work and Working Lives in Essex and Ipswich. So please step forward, use the 'contact us' button below, and join us in giving something back, and enhancing your own development and your cv.

The Ron Shepherd Trust
The Ron Shepherd Trust was established by local committee members in memory of the dedication and commitment of Ron Shepherd to Training and Education services both at a local and national level.
Ron Sheppard was employed by the Ford Motor Company between 1950 and 1989 and specialised in education and training from the 1960s. Ron held many senior roles within the profession and sat on many academic advisory boards.
The Trust’s aim was to forge a permanent link between the work of the Branch and Educational institutes.
Awards are made annually to two CIPD PDS students from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU, Chelmsford), University Campus Suffolk (UCS, Ipswich) and the University of East London (UEL, Stratford). Although UEL no longer falls within the Essex and Ipswich Branch geographical area, it is still a beneficiary of the Ron Sheppard Trust as it fell within the area covered by the Trust at the time the Trust was formed.
The awards are made in recognition of academic achievement.
For further details of the Trust and its activities, please contact Brian England.
