A warm welcome to the North of Scotland and Islands Branch. The primary purpose of our Branch is to promote and champion the objectives of the CIPD and to act as a local channel to ensure that CIPD members have opportunities to network with colleagues, continue with their professional development and remain up to date with evolving HR topics.

Our branch spans a wide geographical area from Aberdeen to Shetlands with over 2,000 members. However you engage with the branch, whether attending events, contributing to our newsletters, or by joining our Branch Committee or one of the associated groups, we have no doubt you will find it both valuable and enjoyable.

The Branch Committee is made up of volunteers who work hard in the background to provide a diverse and comprehensive schedule of events for Members, enabling us all to share the benefit and expertise of a range of speakers and leaders in our profession. The Branch provides an active programme of support to members including events, membership upgrading workshops, support and advice. It contributes to the work of CIPD Scotland, for instance planning of the Scottish CIPD Conference as well as supporting the wider activities of the CIPD in Wimbledon. Our events programme is available via the Local branch events section below. This section is updated on a regular basis so please do check and keep up to date with changes and additions.

We are keen to ensure that our Branch programme remains up to date and relevant to you. Please do keep in touch with us – our details can be found by clicking on ‘Contact Us’ – and do give us your comments about any of our events and suggestions for future events.

Who we are and what we do

Our vision for the North of Scotland & Islands Branch is to create an enthusiastic and committed membership supported by a listening, enthusiastic and effective Committee who work together to meet the Members’ needs by:

  • identifying and representing their views and issues
  • increasing the profile of the Institute
  • adding value to the profession
  • improving local Member engagement, and
  • increasing access to and approachability of the local Committee, CIPD Scotland and the Institute as a whole.

If you have ideas for improving what we have to offer or if you think we can help you with any aspect of your career or your continuing development, please contact us.

We also welcome your comments on what you think of the Branch area and how we are doing in general. Your feedback will help us to learn and improve.

The Branch Committee is run by volunteer HR Professionals who work locally to provide you with information and ensure the events are interesting and informative. If you are interested in joining the Branch Committee or participating in the activities and event planning of one of the Groups, please contact us.

Chaired by Yvonne Arnold and Lisa Winchester

The group is a supportive informal/discussion opportunity but with some further enhancements including; hot topics in HR (based on what the members feel are hot topics for them as well as some prearranged subjects), Q & A evenings - where there is no such thing as a silly question, inspiring guest speakers and of course the opportunity to have a good discussion on hr matters.

The Group is open to anyone who is working within an HR role.
