Croeso – welcome to the South East Wales branch!

Representing over half the CIPD members in Wales, the South East Wales branch is the largest of the three teams operating across Wales.

Our activities complement those provided by CIPD centrally, and the CIPD Wales region, in supporting the professional needs of our 2500 members, offering opportunities to network and share knowledge, providing learning and development opportunities.

We’re continually working on our offer to ensure that it remains relevant to all, irrespective of level of membership, experience in the profession, size of organisation, or sector.

The success of the branch is dependent on the work of our volunteer committees.  If you would like to become involved, please contact Lesley Richards, Head of CIPD Wales.

In the meantime, we’d encourage you to engage with us, get involved in discussions, join in debates, tell us what you would like to see happen in your area, tell us what’s not working for you, and generally keep in touch!

South East Wales Branch is pleased to serve our 2500 members across all membership grades and professions.

Our branch is committed to:

  • supporting your professional needs
  • sharing knowledge
  • encouraging continuing learning and development.

Branch activities complement the resources provided by CIPD nationally. We provide an important opportunity for face to face networking, which enables you to build a professional network that will assist you in your work, as well as provide professional development and enhance your career prospects.

With that in mind, our business plan has been developed to ensure that our branch activities help you make the most of your CIPD membership.

The success of our Branch is dependent upon the work of our volunteer committee, the generosity of our sponsors, and the support of our membership.

Our team is made of HR and L&D practitioners, whose combined experience covers every industry and sector of the business world, be that as an independent consultant, or working with SMEs or larger corporate organisations.

Geographically, we cover a region spanning from the Severn Bridge in the east, to Bridgend in the west, and extending north to the southern areas of Powys. As one of three branches in Wales, we work closely with colleagues in the South West Wales Branch, and the Mid and North Wales Branch.

We want to engage with you, our members, through you attending events, contributing to our newsletters, participating in our on line discussions or by joining the Branch Committee. If you would like to have a direct involvement in how the Branch is run, we have some opportunities for shadowing existing committee members or you can join us at a committee meeting so you can learn more about how we work.

We have various ways of keeping in touch with members. A fortnightly e-newsletter features upcoming events at a local level and highlights recent reports and other professional developments across the Welsh business community. If you would like to contribute, please contact us.

We also have opportunities to engage with members via social media, and would encourage you to join and follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

Any committee member can be contacted directly via the branch webpage. As always, the best method of communication is face-to-face, and we look forward to meeting you at our events.

Each year, we run a busy and varied programme of events which includes well-established activities. This year’s theme is ‘Doing Things Differently!’ with topics covering employee relations updates, as well as specialist topics which give members a chance to access nationally – and sometimes internationally - acclaimed professionals, in addition to practical events designed to refresh your knowledge and skills and update your CPD.

Our annual programme includes:

  • leading edge HR insights from acclaimed speakers
  • professional practice – including CPD and upgrading advice
  • student events – open to all students studying a CIPD qualification.

We are always looking for new and innovative ideas for branch events, so if you have any suggestions for our next programme we’d love to hear from you.

Thanks to the generous support of local organisations, most of our events are free, and we are able to subsidise the cost of the annual dinner. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities – either for events, programme production or via the newsletter - please contact us.
