Welcome to our branch area

Shelley Poole, Branch Chair

Thank you for visiting our branch page and for your interest in becoming part of the vibrant community of people professionals we are creating locally.

A very warm welcome to all our members and potential members visiting our page. We are an active branch with around 4500 members covering the West of England from Bath and West Wiltshire, Bristol through to Somerset.

Whether you’re a CIPD member or non-member working in the people profession or a business leader, we believe you can benefit by being actively involved with the branch activities.

This may be through attending branch events, contributing to our newsletters, partnering and supporting our activities or feeding into our steering or special interest group.

If you're in membership, you can join our branch committee if you would like a direct involvement in running the branch, or join the events team or independent practitioners group if you would like an involvement in planning and running events locally. We are also keen to hear from people interested in becoming mentors for those developing their careers in the profession. Whatever level of involvement you are able offer, we've no doubt you will find it valuable.

Learn about our branch

The primary purpose of our branch is to act as a channel for member and potential member engagement at a local level, in accordance with the CIPD’s strategic priorities and in support of its purpose.

Our branch achieves this by encouraging local networks for practitioners, building capability, gaining new members, running events and working collaboratively on initiatives with other branches and other organisations.

Our Student and Centres lead supports the centres delivering CIPD qualifications within our area via the annual student inductions. Annually the branch awards a prize to a student studying each of the Level 3, 5 and 7 qualification.

Each year we deliver an extensive programme of events aimed at all stages of HR and L&D careers. All events are available to view and book on Eventbrite. There are always plenty of things going on, so do come along to branch events, all of which will give you an opportunity to network with other members and people professionals. Most of our events are free of charge to members, with a small charge for non-members. It's very valuable to get your feedback on the events, please complete the feedback forms provided if you attend one. It's very useful when planning our programme of activities.

Get involved

All those involved in the branch are volunteers who readily give up their own time to represent the CIPD locally. Their dedication and commitment help make the branch the member driven success that it is, and the branch chair would like to take this opportunity to thank them on your behalf.

We are looking for volunteers to join the branch committee, events team and independent practitioners group to continue to take the branch forward, to raise our profile locally and help deliver a diverse range of events for our members.

If you're interested in finding out more, have a chat with one of our committee members at our next event or contact us by email.

Independent practitioners group (IPG)

The branch has an independent practitioners group (IPG) which aims to ensure that the needs and interests of CIPD members who are independent consultants, practitioners, trainers and coaches are met. The IPG organise events as part of the branch programme. IPG events are informal networking meetings based around a specific theme. Each event is a facilitated discussion, with plenty of opportunity for participants to get to know each other, share their experiences, and learn from the experiences of others.
