The Charities HR Network (CHRN) aims to improve HR practice across the charity sector, and the newly signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the CIPD will enhance its ability to do this.

The MOU sets out the key areas of collaboration to support the ongoing development of the HR profession and its professionals within the sector. Under the terms of the agreement, CHRN will work with the CIPD to align professional standards and provide evidence-based solutions, demonstrating a commitment to the highest standards of practice in HR and OD.

The CHRN will also gain access to a new range of CIPD training and accreditation opportunities, a common framework that identifies HR capabilities, and a wider community of practice for its HR practitioners.

Peter Cheese, Chief Executive at the CIPD, said: 'We are delighted to further our relationship with CHRN to support the development of the HR profession, capabilities, and practice across this vital sector. Charities face particular challenges and rely on their diverse workforces as well as volunteers to deliver on their purpose and values, often with more limited HR resources.

'The CIPD is very committed to helping grow the profession and to professionalise by framing, assessing, and helping to develop the capabilities HR people need in this rapidly changing world. Strengthening the connections and shared support, as well as learning from both our organisations and networks is a mutual intent at this is a critically important time for us all.'

Kerry Smith, Chair of the CHRN said: 'This is a milestone for the CHRN as we look to support and develop our members and the fantastic HR teams working in the sector. This is the first agreement of this type in the sector and at a time when HR is playing such a pivotal role in organisations, it helps us to increase the support we offer to our members by allowing us to access the team and the resources of the CIPD. We’d like to thank Peter and the team for their ongoing support.'

Ian Mond, Lead Employer Solutions Team Manager at the CIPD, said: 'We’re incredibly proud to have established a relationship with the network. CIPD Employer Solutions is constantly looking to work in partnership with other purpose-driven organisations to help them set up and maintain industry-leading best practices.

'Our evidence-based solutions are particularly crucial at this time, as the third sector has experienced unprecedented disruption and uncertainty. By demonstrating leading people practices, charities are able to continue serving those who need them the most, as well as evidence sound organisational health and sustainability for investor confidence.'
