The CIPD’s purpose is to champion better work and working lives – to create good work for the benefit of individuals, employers, the economy, and society. This is a big ambition, and one that can only be achieved by gaining a clear understanding of:

  • The challenges preventing individuals from thriving at work
  • The challenges preventing organisations from valuing and investing in their people
  • The challenges preventing organisations from valuing and investing in solutions that will improve their people management and development practices.

Our purpose also depends on public policymakers having the evidence they need to design interventions that help or encourage employers to tackle the big issues – whether it’s a lack of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace, falling investment in skills development, an ageing workforce or persistent issues around stress, bullying and harassment.

Here, we set out our collected perspective on a range of critical issues affecting work, outlining our calls to action for employers and government on the changes needed by public policy and people management and development practices on the ground.

We identify the problem – based on the evidence and our recommendations. We also provide links to our research and guidance, as well as details of how you can get involved to ensure that your voice helps shape the CIPD’s views and knowledge as we continue to advocate the changes needed to champion better work and working lives.
