With 76% of employers in England agreeing that older workers’ experience is crucial to the success of the organisation1 and 79% stating that older workers could help in knowledge and skill sharing2 now is the time for organisations to take advantage of the benefits of age-inclusive recruitment and people management practices.

Based on the Centre for Ageing Better’s Good Recruitment for Older Workers (GROW) project findings, this guide, published in partnership with the Centre for Ageing Better and REC, is designed to provide practical suggestions for employers to become more age-inclusive.

This guide offers five key actions employers can take to make their recruitment more age-inclusive:

  1. Put age into Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
  2. Know your numbers
  3. Debias your job adverts
  4. Check your process
  5. Build awareness and confidence.
By following these actions employers will be able to take advantage of the benefits of being more age-inclusive, including:
  • increasing productivity and knowledge-sharing
  • boosting their reputation as an age-inclusive workplace
  • mitigating the discrimination felt by older and younger jobseekers alike, and
  • ensuring their organisation is prepared for an ageing workforce.
