John McGurk, Head of Policy and Insights: UK Nations and Regions
John's had a long career which has involved driving trains, being an academic completing undergraduate and postgraduate study at Glasgow University as a mature student in the 1990s. After a short but productive academic career he took the post of research and policy director for the UK pilots union where he dealt with everything from pay and pensions to transatlantic access negotiations. Starting at CIPD in 2007 he worked in the Research and Policy team for six years on skills, labour market, learning and development and strategic HR issues. Before taking up his current role he was CIPD’s first head of Scotland and Northern Ireland and as Head of UK Nations and regions he connects with key stakeholders and members.
